Let’s face it, braces are dental devices to straighten teeth, not fashion accessories. They are icons of awkward adolescence and they are never going to make it onto the catwalks, unless it’s in an ironic way. Dental researchers know this and a lot of research money has been put into finding ways to make braces for adults more acceptable.
Not everyone gets their teeth straightened as children. Many grow up with somewhat wonky teeth that are not misaligned enough to qualify for braces in North London on the NHS. But, when you are earning your own money, why not spend some of it on getting your teeth straightened? It’s easier than ever now that dental research and development has come up with so many great ways to straighten mildly misaligned teeth.
Here at Denchic Dental Spa, we stock three great types of braces in North London, and we reckon that one of them is perfect for your mild misalignment issues.
These clear plastic aligners don’t even look like braces. Mouth guard-style aligners snap on over your teeth and their carefully positioned pressure points press on your teeth until they start to move. Once the pressure’s worn off, you put the next aligner in, and so on, until your teeth are correctly placed. Invisalign aligners are removable, which makes eating and cleaning much simpler, plus when they are in place, you have to look very, very closely to see them. Average treatment time is a year.
These are bracket and wire braces, 21st century style. The brackets are clear ceramic and the wires are tooth-coloured. Everything is smaller and finer than old-style metal braces so they blend in with the teeth. These braces are designed to work on the front six social teeth, which are the ones that show when we smile and talk. The average treatment time is six months, hence the name.
This is a removable device. It features two spring-loaded aligner bows that go in front of and behind the front teeth. It is used to straighten the very front teeth only and depending on what the problem is, can take as little as six weeks to do its work.
