People don’t seem to realise that teeth can move around in the jaw throughout life, no matter how old someone is, and getting braces is not age-dependent once you have at least some adult teeth. In fact, it’s not unusual for much older people to have teeth straightening so that they can have dental implants fitted.

At Denchic Dental Spa, we offer three kinds of braces in North London:

Inman Aligner

This removable device realigns the front teeth only. It uses the opposing forces of two metal spring-loaded aligner bows which fit in front of and behind the front teeth. Treatment takes only 6–18 weeks and the aligner doubles as a retainer to hold the teeth in place while they settle in.

Invisalign

These are transparent, plastic, 3D printed mouth guard-style trays. They fit so snugly over the teeth that they become almost invisible once they are in place. You start with tray 1 in the series, which is a tiny bit different than how your teeth are now. Carefully placed pressure points inside the aligner starts to move your teeth toward alignment. You wear each tray in the series for about a week to 10 days. Treatment takes about a year.

Six Month Smiles

Small, clear ceramic brackets and tooth-coloured wires use the same mechanical principles as traditional braces to move teeth. However, because they are moving the teeth and not realigning the bite, the forces are much gentler. Six Month Smiles takes, on average, six months to realign the front six social teeth — the ones most people are concerned about because they are most often on view.
