We are so lucky to live in a time when there are so many ways to get teeth straightened with braces in North London. New materials and technologies seem to have unleashed an explosion of creativity among dental researchers, with liberating results for the patient.

You no longer need to just live with teeth that are a bit wonky, gappy or crowded – the kind of alignment issues that fall just outside the NHS parameters for braces funding. Six Month Smiles

Small, clear ceramic brackets hold tooth-coloured wires that use the same mechanical principles as traditional braces to move teeth. However, because they are only concerned with moving the teeth and not realigning the bite, the forces are much gentler. Six Month Smiles takes, on average, 6 months to realign the front 6 social teeth – the ones most people are concerned about because they are most often on view.

Inman Aligner

A removable device that realigns the front teeth only, using the opposing forces of 2 metal spring-loaded aligner bows. Treatment takes only a few weeks and you then use the aligner to hold the teeth in place while they settle in.

Invisalign

Not your usual braces, but transparent, plastic, 3D printed trays that fit so snugly over the teeth that they become almost invisible. You get a series of them. You start with your first tray, which is a tiny bit different than how your teeth are now. Pressure from the plastic starts to move your teeth toward alignment. You wear each tray in the series for about 2 weeks. Treatment takes about a year on average.
